Frizzlife SK99 Review

Three stages of filtration make the Frizzlife SK99 a long-lasting under sink water filter system. It’s affordable, easy to install, and retains a lot of minerals in the water it produces.

In our review of the Frizzlife SK99, we’ll be comparing and contrasting it with our hours of research and testing for under sink water filters. We’ll give you the inside scoop on who it’s a great choice for, and who might find a different filter to be the perfect fit for their home.

How It Works

Frizzlife’s SK99 system is an upgrade to the company’s popular MK99 model, and it filters even more contaminants out. But just like the company’s smaller filter system, it leaves a lot of minerals in the final water. This makes it great for standard water sources, but not a perfect fit for hard water sources.

This Frizzlife under sink water filter uses 3 progressive stages of filtration. 

Stage One is a sediment pre-filter. This removes large particles like sand, silt, and rust. By doing so, it extends the life of the next two filter stages.

Stage Two is a carbon block filter. It’s the first step in removing chlorine, chloramine, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This prepares the water for a final filtration step and improves its taste and aroma.

Stage Three is another carbon block filter. But this one is a finer grade, and removes contaminants down to 0.5 microns. It fully removes lead and other heavy metals.

It’s worth noting here that the SK99 retains the mineral content of the water that flows through it. That’s desirable for most water sources, as it improves the taste and your body needs the minerals for good health. 

But if you’re starting with hard water, that means the calcium and magnesium in your water will also be retained. To fully remove these, consider a reverse osmosis system instead.

Performance

The SK99 under sink water filter system has two certifications from the NSF.

NSF Certification 42 means it’s fully capable of removing “aesthetic impurities”. That means it will remove unpleasant tastes and smells. Chlorine is the most obvious example of what this filter will remove.

NSF Certification 53 certifies the system for removing contaminants with known health effects. That means it’s guaranteed to remove lead and other heavy metals.

Many 3-stage filter systems also have NSF Certification 401, but the SK99 does not. 

If you’re concerned about emerging contaminants like pharmaceutical residue and chemical runoff, you’ll need to invest in a pricier system with this added certification.

Flow Rate

The SK99 has been tested to provide up to 2 gallons per minute of water at 60 psi. If your home has good water pressure, to begin with, you’ll only notice a slight drop after installing this system.

But because water has to go through three progressive filtering stages, it can cause a noticeable drop in flow rate. If your home already has fairly low water pressure, you may want to go for their MK99 single-stage filter system instead.

Components

The Frizzlife SK99 under sink water filter system comes with everything you’ll need to install it. It’s a 3-stage filter system that ends in a 0.5-micron filter, making it very effective at removing contaminants.

Braided metal hoses and metal fittings are durable and long-lasting. They connect to your existing cold water line, so there’s no need to install a separate faucet. 

And unlike the MK99 that we reviewed here, the fittings for the SK99 don’t require any plumber’s tape to prevent leaks. 

Installation

This is one of the easiest 3-stage filter systems to install. It requires little more than turning off your cold water line and disconnecting it. Then attaching the braided metal hoses to both ends and turning the water back on.

Filter Replacement

Filter replacement for the SK99 is about as easy as it comes. Using the provided filter wrench, you don’t even need to turn off your water to make replacements. Just give it a few turns, then screw in the new filter.

The company recommends replacing the sediment filter every 3-6 months, the second filter every 8-12 months, and the final filter every 12-18 months. They sell a 4-pack that makes it easy to plan your filter replacements. And it’s competitively priced at just $50 for all four filter cartridges.

Build Quality

Everything that the SK99 comes with feels durable and long-lasting. The braided metal hoses and fittings are top quality. And the filter housing is made of durable hard plastic. We have no complaints at all about this system’s build quality.

Warranty & Support

Frizzlife requires registering your product to activate its warranty. At the time of writing, that will get you a 1-year warranty. But because it’s not included with the description of the product, that warranty is subject to change at Frizzlife’s discretion.

Support is offered through 24/7 online contact. That’s significantly less than some of the leading water filter companies, who offer phone consultations with their products. We’d appreciate it if Frizzlife started a phone support line in the future.

Recap

The Frizzlife SK99 is as affordable and easy to install as 3-stage systems get. If you have decent water pressure and a relatively clean water source, it will provide great-tasting water at a great price. But if you have hard water, it’ll probably leave in most of what you’re trying to filter out. In that case, a reverse osmosis system would be a better choice.
