Hydroviv Under Sink Filter

If you’re looking for the best tasting water of any filter system, Hydroviv really delivers. Their “water nerds” customize each filter ordered based on where you live. And it’s really darned easy to install, too. It’s pricier than systems with comparable certifications. But the aforementioned benefits more than make up for it.

What We Like
  • Very easy to install
  • Optimized for your city’s water quality data
  • Great 5-year warranty
What We Don’t Like
  • More expensive than other under sink filters
  • Not yet certified for removal of emerging contaminants
  • Filter replacements are pricey

Look at enough reviews of water filters, and you’ll start shaking your head. One person will say that System X makes the best tasting water they’ve ever had. Another will say that System X didn’t change their water at all. What gives?

The trick is that water quality differs depending on where you live. Hydroviv clued into this, and now produces custom-made filters based on municipal water reports. We’ve reviewed all their claims, and now we’re sharing our judgments with you on whether it’s worth buying a Hydroviv water filter.

Components

Compared to other under sink water filter systems, the Hydroviv is exceptionally streamlined. It connects directly to your existing faucet. And it comes almost fully assembled, so installation is fast and easy.

That simplicity is combined with custom-designed filters specific to each location they’re shipped to. In short, this water filter has a targeted and minimalist design that’s both effective and space-saving.

How It Works

For most water filter systems, you’ll find a clear listing of their filtering stages and components. Not so with Hydroviv — but that’s not a bad thing.

Hydroviv is built on the idea that since not all tap water is the same, they shouldn’t sell the same filters to everyone. So first, a team of scientists and water experts combs through municipal water quality data. Then, they build filters specific to the water that’s coming through your pipes.

The result? This targeted approach makes for some of the best-tasting water you’ll ever find. And they have a remarkable success rate that few other filters can match.

Performance

Hydroviv filters have two NSF/ANSI certifications.

Certification 42 means that these filters will remove “aesthetic impurities”. In other words, they filter out bad tastes and smells. Chlorine is the most common example of this.

Certification 53 guarantees that the Hydroviv will remove contaminants with known negative health effects. That means lead and other heavy metals, as well as cysts, viruses, bacteria, and more.

Additionally, independent testing has shown that Hydroviv water filters do a great job of removing PFAS. These man-made contaminants are shown to cause negative health effects, but are not currently regulated by the EPA.

Flow Rate

Because it connects directly to your existing faucet, the Hydroviv system can produce drops in water pressure. But honestly, this is to be expected with any under sink filter system. If your water pressure is at or below 20 psi, you’ll need a booster to make good use of this system. But if the pressure is already average, you probably won’t notice much of a drop after installation.

Installation

Working with nothing more than common household tools, you can install a Hydroviv water filter in 15 minutes or less. That’s about as easy to install as a water filter gets.

Check out this installation video from Hydroviv to see just how easy it is:

Filter Replacement

Filter replacements for the Hydroviv under sink filter are quite easy. All you need to do is turn off your cold water supply, then put down a towel. Use the filter wrench that they provide you to remove the housing. Then take the old filter out, put a new one in, and reverse the process. Voila! Easy peasy.

The tradeoff for Hydroviv’s wonderfully simple design is that filter replacements are expensive. They cost $100, or $75 if you sign up for automatic replacement every 6 months. That means you’ll be paying $150 to $200 per year for filtered water.

Build Quality

Build quality for Hydroviv’s water filters is top notch. The metal fittings are durable and precisely machined. Tubing is high grade plastic, and plenty is provided for installation. The housing is a durable hard plastic that’s made for the long haul. And it’s all covered by a great warranty (more on that in the next section). Basically, there’s nothing at all to worry about with the build quality for this water filter.

Warranty & Support

warranty

Hydroviv offers a 30 day money back guarantee. If for any reason you don’t like their water filter in the first month, you can return it for a full refund with no questions asked.

After that first 30 days, your system will also be covered by an excellent 5-year warranty. If there are any defects in the product or its workmanship, Hydroviv will repair or replace it.

And if you need any support with your system, Hydroviv is very easy to get in contact with. They have email, live chat, and phone support options.

Recap

Hydroviv offers a targeted, area-specific way to get the best tasting water possible. Startup and replacement costs are fairly high. But in return, you get custom-filtered water and an incredibly easy to install system. Overall, it’s a remarkably well-designed filter system.
